Pines woman opens Selbyville gift shopBy C. PolkDelMarvaNow.com

Selbyville — One Ocean Pines woman is hoping to liven up Selbyville’s shopping scene with her shop of gifts and home accents, Whysper.

About a month ago, Ocean Pines’ Beverly Sweitzer opened her shop on Route 113 in Selbyville.

“The whole reason I came to Selbyville is because there’s not much here,” Sweitzer said. “But I think Selbyville’s really going to take off.”

Sweitzer’s shop sells a variety of accessories and home accents, including jewelry, belts, hats, gifts and art. The store sells one-of-a-kind Bella’s Bags, made in Pennsylvania.

“Nobody will have the same bag,” Sweitzer said. “I’m trying to do a lot of one-of-a-kind items.”

The shop also features art from local painter Arlene Bailor, who is known for her watercolors.

“She does her own framing,” Sweitzer said. “And she’s local. That’s what I love the most.”

Bailor also has items such as lamps and baskets that she has adorned with paint.

“Anything that looks interesting I’ll paint on,” Bailor said. “I try to fill a need.”

Bailor, who has only been painting a few years, was approached by Sweitzer just before she opened her shop and has since helped design the store’s logo and signs.

“I’m painting furiously now,” Bailor said.
