Kimball Twp. – Surrounded by a veterinary office and metal, wood and engine-repair shops, Wadhams Road between Ravenswood and Smiths Creek roads isn’t exactly a retail hub.

But for Jane Riehl, it was the perfect spot for fulfilling a decade-long dream of opening a gift shop.

Wadhams is “building up, big time,” Riehl said.

The store is just the first of many developments coming to the area, including a new subdivision, a strip mall and Pepsi’s new distribution center.

Riehl, whose husband, Jeff Riehl, works at the Times Herald, opened Riehl’s Gifts and Cards on some family-owned property last month. The store carries Carlton greeting cards, stationary and Christmas ornaments; candles; wind chimes; sun catchers; and collectible bears, snowmen, angels and more.

Riehl worked in the gift industry for years but always harbored a desire to own her own shop.
