Over The Rainbow

Stanley Moore gave up a university teaching career to open Over The Rainbow, a specialty toy store in Austin. The store’s location is a mere two blocks from his house, and is across the street from an elementary school. Over the Rainbow has weathered 33 years of ups and downs, and has seen the specialty toy market vastly expand. Much of the store’s appeal comes from its neighborhood vibe—people who shopped at the store as kids now bring back their own children. Many of the employees have been here for years, and they write each of the sales tickets by hand, sans computer. The store is like a family, and customers are welcomed in like favorite cousins.
