Black Friday and beyond
More than 138 million shoppers are expected to hit stores nationwide on Black Friday weekend, which is about 4 million more than in 2009, according to the National Retail Federation.
Retail’s BIG Blog notes a few holiday trends for 2010:
1. Americans aren’t ready to say the recession’s over and they’re being cautious with their money.
2. But they’re moving slowly toward that view and they’re beginning to shop again.
3. Fun is replacing last year’s “fundamentals” as the thing to buy. While last year was the year to buy the vacuum, this year a nice piece of jewelry’s a better bet.
