Hanukkah Shop Fills Niche for Jewish Community
Wausau, WI – WAUSAU Though many retailers in central Wisconsin overlook the area’s small Jewish population, a Wausau synogogue is bringing religious and cultural chotchkies, or Judaica, to their store so shoppers can find gifts for holidays such as Hanukkah.
Mt. Sinai Congregation serves the surrounding area and includes about 40 households from Wausau, 90 total.
“The shop is a great example of Jewish life here in northcentral Wisconsin — intrepid members making Jewish life happen in the area,” said Mt. Sinai’s Rabbi Dan Danson. “We joke that when a new national chain opens up, the first year they have a Hanukkah display, but then they learn it doesn’t sell.”
