Downtown Milford shops and restaurants are open on Thursday eveningsBy Kathy ClevelandCabinet.com

Milford — Grab a piece of diner pie, shop for jewelry, and pick up some paperbacks for beach reading.

Where? Downtown Milford on Thursday evenings this summer.

Tracy Bardsley, director of the Main Street/Downtown Improvement Team, said she and shop owners got together and decided it would be good if they stayed open until 8 p.m. on Thursday nights, when banks are open later, through Labor Day.

Participating businesses are located on Nashua Street, South Street, and around the Oval. One of them is the J.M. Princewell gift shop on the Oval, which welcomes browsers to their displays of jewelry, handbags, clothing, and other gift items.

“We want to be available to people who work,” said owner June Costa. “We do fairly well at night, and we wanted to encourage other people to open.”

Shoppers can also pick up art supplies at Juliet’s Art Shoppe, buy pet supplies at the Fish Bowl and art at the Frame Gallery.
