One Kings Lane Scouts 100+ Products For NY NOW’s 2nd Annual “Open House” Trend Display

From more than 750 product submissions, some 100+ home and lifestyle products, deemed most representative of four key 2013-2014 design trends, have been accepted into the second annual “Open House” exhibit, which returns to the summer edition of NY NOW®, the Market for Home & Lifestyle (formerly NYIGF®), August 17-21, 2013, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. NY NOW presents Open House in partnership with One Kings Lane and Sandow Media, publishers of Home Textiles Today, Home Accents Today and Gifts & Decorative Accessories.

As an extension of the physical display at NY NOW, select products from participants will be sold online at One Kings Lane (www.onekingslane.com) for three days during NY NOW, with proceeds benefitting Gift For Life, the home, gift and stationery industries’ sole charity partner. In 2012, One Kings Lane raised $36,000 for Gift For Life through an online sale related to the Open House display.

“We’re delighted to continue our partnership with One Kings Lane and Sandow Media to present Open House at NY NOW,” said Christian Falkenberg, NY NOW director and GLM senior vice president. “They collaborated closely to identify top trends and colorways that will have the greatest impact on home and lifestyle merchandise in the coming year.”

A complete list of companies and products selected for each of the four trends is available online athttp://www.nynow.com/TheShow/OpenHouseDisplayParticipantsSummer2013.aspx. Descriptions of the four trends, and sample products from each of the four trends are:

Monochromatic
The monochromatic design theme represents simplicity and sophistication in multiple shades of a single hue. The theme is also conveyed in classic geometric patterns, elegant animal prints, chevrons, and latticework. Among products selected to represent this trend include the SWEA pillow by Area Inc.; the Blooms Placemat by Hester & Cook Design Group; and the Quartz Ceramic Vessels by HomArt ceramics.

Neo-Traditional
A cleaner, postmodern, neo-traditional theme is emerging, with large-scaled versions of time-honored motifs, such as lace, damask and other classic prints and patterns in jewel-tone colors. Examples of this theme are represented by several products, including the “Athens” midnight blue and cream rug by Fab Habitat; the Brocade Velvet Pillow in Emerald by Kevin O’Brien; and the Isabelle Table Linens by Linen Way.

Vintage with a Twist
This trend is a continuation of the vintage philosophy – as new treasures are created from old parts and aged woods with patina finishes – but now in ways the original designers did not intend. Sample products include: Vintage Premium Luncheon Napkins by MYdrap; the Waxed Canvas Tote by Peg and Awl; and the Dark Aged Wane Edge Maple Bowl by Stinson Studios.

Well Cultured
Hand-made crafts, fusion colors and intricate prints and textures inspired by Africa, Asian and Latin America are at the heart of this enduring trend. Among products representing this trend include: Wayuu Mochila by Belart; the Ethiopian Towel Collection by Creative Women; and Frazadas by Little Journeys.

All NY NOW exhibitors were invited to submit products for the Open House display. The exhibit will be open during all NY NOW show hours, August 17-21, 2013, in the North Concourse at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Center. A related seminar, “Open House: Key Trends in Home Products” will be presented at NY NOW on Sunday, August 18, from 8:30am-9:30am. Tickets, which cost $20 before August 13, and $25 afterwards, are available online at www.nynow.com/programs.

NY NOW, the Market for Home & Lifestyle, will run Saturday, August 17, through Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center and Passenger Ship Terminal Pier 94. NY NOW’s four comprehensive collections – HOME, LIFESTYLE, HANDMADE and NEW! – will encompass 100,000 products in 400+ product categories.
