Retailers gear up for Art to the AvenueBy Lisa ChamoffGreenwichTime.com

Greenwich, CT — A year and a half ago, artist Ankita Saha popped into the Therese Saint Clair stationery store on Lewis Street.

Saha, who uses paper to create collages, wanted to start a greeting card line and sought advice. The store’s owner, Sheila May, happily obliged.

So May, who decided to participate in the 13th annual Art to the Avenue, was thrilled to find Saha’s work at a showcase arranged earlier this year by the event’s organizer, the Greenwich Arts Council, where merchants select the artists whose work they will display in their windows.

“I thought how perfect that was, being a stationery store,” May said. “We had a real affinity.”

The event, which kicks off Thursday evening with music, dancers and other entertainment and runs through May 31, is bigger than ever, said Paul Master-Karnik, executive director of the council.

There will be 160 artists displaying their work at 150 different locations, including retailers and the spaces of several town nonprofit organizations. The show will also incorporate more large sculptures than before.
