Shoppers Flock to Local Stores on Small Business SaturdayBy Carol McGrawGazette.com

Colorado Springs, CO – Sharon Patterson was perched on a bench in Sparrow Hawk cooking shop downtown. She had shopped until she finally dropped.

“My back aches,” she explained as she waited – and waited some more – for her daughter Pamela York, who had really gotten into the spirit of Small Business Saturday. York, who grew up in Colorado Springs and now works in Washington, D.C., had just purchased chocolates, a retro bar set, hand blenders, and who knows what else was there poking out of her shopping bags. “This shop gets me in trouble,” she laughed.

Small Business Saturday, wedged between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, is in its third year. Patterson said they had stayed home Black Friday. “We think its very good idea to support local places.”
