Shop Has Scarlet Sparkle
Plant City – The Red Hat Society, a worldwide organization about to mark its 10th anniversary, has inspired a Plant City shop catering to members’ needs.
Tanya Killebrew opened the Bodacious Red Hat Shop in the Frenchman’s Market in November, when the market moved to larger quarters at 102 S. Evers St.
Killebrew’s involvement with the society open to women 50 and older followed the joining by her mother, Sylvia Gordon of Apollo Beach.
“My mom is a Red Hatter and kept telling me how much fun they had,” Killebrew said. At the time, lacking sufficient years to join, Killebrew became a Pink Hatter, the allied group for women younger than 50.
“It’s just a really nice thing to share with your mom,” Killebrew said.
Mother and daughter help operate the new business that offers most anything a Red Hatter might need.
The shop sells hats, of course, but also clothing and accessories, from purses and wallets to scarves, ponchos, headbands and hatbands. Offerings also include items designed especially for a Red Hat party, including invitations, greeting cards, suitable gifts, paper plates, cups and napkins.
The inventory also includes luggage and various size totes, all with the Red Hatter in mind, Killebrew said.
“I’m always on the lookout” for new items for the shop, said Killebrew, who attends gift and jewelry shows and scours the Internet for wholesalers who sell appropriate merchandise.
