Searcy — Yes, those look like fishing lures in the ears of that woman in the bathing suit, but they are actually the latest in jewelry fashion, invented and made by a Searcy entrepreneur.

Fly Girl Fashions was founded by Kim Spence of Searcy and produces jewelry that mimics fishing tackle and other outdoor themes. Incorporated in 2008, the small company is the outcome of an idea Spence had three years ago. Spence had already been making bead jewelry but, with an artist’s eye, she realized a chance to cast her line into more adventurous waters.

While strolling through the fishing department at Gander Mountain in North Little Rock, the light bulb came on for Spence.

“I was looking at all the lures and thinking how pretty all the colors were when it hit me,” Spence said. “That would look so cute with a bathing suit.”

The result was a line of earrings and other jewelry that is shiny and flashy, something that attracts fish … and men, Spence said with a laugh.

“Women notice the shininess and men notice them, asking if I have fishing lures in my ears,” Spence said.
