Rutherford Downtown Partnership to offer borough-wide ‘sale’
Rutherford — Shop Rutherford gift certificates will be available at a discount during the month of February, courtesy of the Rutherford Downtown Partnership and Boiling Springs Savings Bank. The certificates, which can be used like cash in approximately 75 of the borough’s businesses, can be purchased for 10 percent off their face value, but spent at full value — creating an instant “sale” at every participating store or service provider. The certificates are available at Boiling Springs’ new Rutherford location at 25 Orient Way.
The partnership and bank have contributed a total of $5,500 to fund the program, which will continue until the money runs out, or the end of February, whichever comes first, according to Robin Reenstra-Bryant, manager of the downtown partnership.
“With this program, everything is on sale in those participating businesses,” Reenstra-Bryant stated. “It is a great opportunity to get in the habit of supporting our local businesses. And while the certificate program has always been a wonderful option for gift giving, it now makes sense to use them for all local purchases.”
Local businesses are worth fighting for, and spending for, according to Barry Goffin, the partnership’s vice president and owner of Goffin’s Hallmark.
“It’s not all about the discount,” Goffin said in an interview with The Leader. “It’s about supporting your town, supporting merchants.”
One of the great things about shopping in Rutherford is the diversity of products and services available, Reenstra-Bryant said. And, the gift certificates can be used for both — including doctors’ visits and dining out. A list of participating businesses comes with the certificate.
