Designer wants clients’ styles to shine
Interior designer Ursula Hanavan believes the homes she decorates should allow her clients’ personalities to shine through. “Your home should look like you,” said the Wiltonian, who recently opened Interiors and Designs by Ursula at 378 Main Street in Ridgefield. “It should bespeak your personality.”
Next to the Bissell House restaurant, the store is decorated with reclaimed oak floors, pressed tin ceilings, and bubble chandeliers.
It houses her design studio and also sells furniture and an eclectic collection of home accents such as old station clocks, pillows, a glass driftwood table, antiques and mirrors. The back room features a small gift shop with a selection of jewelry and accessories, her “Trinkets and Treasures” collection.
Ms. Hanavan said she will design anything from the layout of an entire house to a single room or window treatment.
But the goal is the same, working to capture “the essence” of her clients, according to Ms. Hanavan. “To me, that is the greatest joy,” she said, “and hopefully if they are more comfortable in their homes, they will want to do more there, and maybe become closer to their families.”
For example, she said she worked with one of her clients to transform a “catch-all room” into a personal sanctuary. “She is a professional so I created a home office space,” she said. “But my client is also a quilter so I used a wonderful table with two folding leaves that could double as both a work table and a quilting table.”
