YaYa Gurlz gives customers a reason to smile
Texas — Mom is a little bit Janis Joplin. Daughter is a little bit rodeo chic.
Their unique styles in fashion and home décor dovetail at Ya Ya Gurlz.
“I’m the hippie, and she’s the outlaw,” said Julie Young, referring to her daughter, Summer Cullins.
On April 1, 2008, the two opened Ya Ya Gurlz, which they describe as a place “where Janice Joplin meets Mae West.”
“Customers never know what they are going to find when they come in. If we see something at market that we like, then we find a place for it at the store,” Young said.
Studded boots, haute flip flops, jeans, fun and funky dresses and tops, bold and big bling, glittery wall décor and more fill the retail store. Throughout the shop are sassy sayings on T-shirts (“Mama tried” and “Will rope for candy”), stylish trucker caps (“Ride it like you stole it”) and signage (“I hunt ’cause my wife can’t climb a tree.”).
