Home decor store opens in PontiacBy Michele SteinbacherPantagraph.com

Pontiac, IL — Home Wishes, the latest shop to open on downtown Pontiac’s square, brings a mix of unique furniture and home decor pieces — as well as a professional decoration consultant for hire.

Owner Karen Schulz said she wants the business, 216 N. Main St., to become part of the city’s fabric.

“Our downtown is absolutely gorgeous. And I wanted to be a part of keeping that thriving,” she said.

The site opened this week, but Schulz plans a grand opening Friday and Saturday. At that time, visitors can enter a drawing for gift certificates.

Schulz calls the store a blend of country, traditional and northwoods-themed items.

The shop has everything from candles, vases and seasonal decorations to handmade chairs and antique furniture.

Opening such a shop has always been a dream for Schulz, whose own work will be among the inventory. Quilted squares, customized painted wood signs and prints of Schulz’s paintings will be available. Customers can find items to fit any budget. “There are gifts for as little as $2 or $3 all the way to the more expensive furniture pieces,” she said.

Schulz, an experienced consultant, also will help clients decorate their homes or for an event such as a wedding.
