When she tired of her desk job as director of operations at a natural foods company, Schecter —a Philadelphia native—purchased the shop from previous owner Molly Rossettie. Since June 2013 Brandy has run The Little Apple with her tiny dog and official greeter Betty (named for Betty Page).

The shop is in the historic corridor of Manayunk, a trendy bike- and dog-friendly northern neighborhood, frequented by the brunch set in the daytime and college kids by night. “It’s got a small-town charm,” Schecter says of the neighborhood, “Everyone is really friendly and supportive of each other.”
