Best Sellers in Outer Banks, NC By Eric Wallace

Island Nautical

The cornerstone of a colorful shopping center, Island Nautical boasts an eclectic mix of nautical items, perfect for both the enthusiast and landlubber alike. Immediately upon entering the store, visitors are immersed in maritime culture. Antique masts, harpoons, instruments, and ships’ wheels evoke traces of the Outer Banks’ pirate past.

Lifelike model ships are scattered throughout the store, each equipped with a plaque denoting its historical significance.

Jack Hughes, owner of Island Nautical, says that a majority of the store’s business comes from repeat customers, many of whom he has had the pleasure of knowing since they were children. “Now,” he adds, “I’m getting to meet their children, which is just amazing.”
