La Belle Histoire

Sally Moehle, Owner
soulardgypsyshop.com

Step inside La Belle Histoire and be bathed with what sounds like French Quarter jazz, circa 1920. Shop owner Sally Moehle mixes vintage, bohemian and some magical fairy dust to create a little bit of New Orleans right here in a corner shop in the Soulard neighborhood. “Once you carry masks, you’re crossing the realm, anyway,” Moehle says. She creates the masks, giving them names like “Burlesque” and “Namasté” and dates every one. “Masquerade is becoming more of a theme for cruises, high school reunions,” Moehle points out, noting that the masks can also be used in shadowboxes. Her mother makes scented candles in small batches. With names like “Café Beignet,” “Garden District,” and “Love Spell” these candles are also sold in the store.
