Local Goods: Arcata’s Star Attraction By Madison Dapcevich

Bubbles

Caravan of Dreams
Owner: Nancy Anderson

When Bubbles first opened its doors in 1973, owner Victoria Joyce knew that she wanted her store to “teach people to feel good about themselves.” The “Buy Local” message works especially well for Bubbles. After all, 33 years since Bubbles opened for business, Joyce is still seeing many of her original customers coming in. Joyce also attributes this to great relationships with her customers.

People like to know what is in the products they use, and since we make them here in the store I can tell them what each ingredient is and where it came from,” Joyce says. “You don’t get that type of service in nationwide commercial stores,” she adds.

Two-thirds of all products are made locally in the store using mostly fair-trade and organic ingredients. The products made onsite include soaps, bubble baths, bath gels, shampoos, body washes, lotions, incense and massage oil.
