Shoppe Object: The New Look By Sarah Schwartz

I had a true adventure exploring the largest and best attended Shoppe Object to date in its expanded downtown digs. Here I’m all ready to kick off my sensational, sustainable stroll at the light-filled Skylight at Essex Crossing — but I discovered plenty of carefully curated finds at its location on Pier 36 as well. Walking both venues felt like a trip around the world of global design, all without leaving Manhattan!

Hailing from Ohio (like me!), And Here We are consistently churns out the edgy humor we didn’t know we  needed until we see it. Barbie-esque fonts and clever plays on familiar taglines elevate these from the rest.

If you like plants and stationery, Another Studio is the brand for you! This British range captivates in both categories for a knockout design punch. Here you see its Plant Animals — but it’s just one of many treats to discover here. Did I mention that many offerings from this woman-owned brand are mailable??

Have you met your match yet? If you stock candles, these should be lighting up your displays as well. These fabulous specimens from Archivist — also hailing from the UK — are almost too precious to use, but promise to infuse the everyday with just a touch of extraordinary luxury.

Speaking of candles and luxury, these Fair Trade, hand poured creations double as ever-evolving animal sculptures. They hail from the British Colour Standard, established in London in 1931 but clearly ready for its 21st-century close-up!

While Cambridge Imprint has 22.9 followers on Instagram, it was new to me. How can any paper nerd not be completely and immediately obsessed with this brand, a design partnership of painter Claerwen James, textile artist Jane Powell and ceramicist Ali Murphy? In these women’s capable hands, hand-stenciled screen-printing and spot-color lithography become creations you can barely tear your eyes away from. To me, it’s the sweet belly band that makes this Very Slim List Book completely irresistible.

Embroidery assumes nearly magical dimensions in these earrings from Celeste Mogador. Combining artisanal and surprising elements, these French finds also promise to be light on the ear while making an enormously luxe, unexpected statement.

That earring concept finds a different yet equally impactful expression at Honey Loom Designs. Hailing from Portland, Anna Aase invites you to feel the felt vibe — it’s pretty hard to resist! These designs just beg to be touched, especially when presented on on-trend rattan backdrops.

Perhaps you’ve heard of Joseph Mimran, founder of Club Monaco and Joe Fresh? Now he turns his discerning eye to the desk space with GRY MATTR. These timeless finds infuse workdays with efficiency, sustainability, value — and plenty of effortless chic. An Expanding Folder, for example, is understated yet posh in black, and colorful fun in multi-colored hues, as you can easily spot in the background.

This London brand, Papier, has been pristinely printing designer-driven, personalized stationery finds since 2015, but has only recently entered wholesale. Now it also enters the latest lifestyle segment to receive media attention — sleep — unveiling several themed journals carefully crafted to appeal to every last design demographic.

You only understand a situation once you can laugh at it. Just ask Carissa Potter of People I’ve Loved. This letterpress card was designed to both facilitate authentic connections and spur sometimes difficult conversations — but that’s just part of what sets this very special brand apart.

Home fragrancing and home offices go hand in hand — especially with Reisfields NYC. These cement incense holders are of recycled stone and receive a delicate, one-of-a-kind patina when its  sustainably-grown, organic Incense Sticks are burned.

This Manhattan brand, Mr. Boddington’s Studio, always feels simultaneously classic and fresh, which is not an easy design line to straddle. Here, a celebration of 60 has never been so easy and tasty — and the verbiage and typeface are literally the icing on the cake.
