To owner Becky Dumeresque, her store Chequers (pronounced “checkers”) is not just a job but a “love story.” With its sumptuous fabrics, overstuffed pillows, crimson walls, rich, dark woods and cozy corners, each inviting nook tells its own love story in this upscale home furnishings and accessories store. 
As a retail veteran, Dumeresque opened Chequers 14 years ago, after working in women’s fashions. She says she sees her work in home fashion and accessories as very similar to working in clothing. Her customers are just as concerned with how their homes are dressed and accessorized as they are with their bodies. “Our clientele can shop anywhere in the world,” Dumeresque says, “and it’s our service and great merchandise that keep them coming to Chequers.”
