Mobile, AL – If destiny means anything, the cozy downtown space that once was home to Chesser Gallery and The Paper Wasp is clearly intended to be a home for art.

Call it fate, karma or simply inevitable. The building at 306 Dauphin St. on Cathedral Square has been reborn, yet again, as a gathering place for artists looking for a home.

Its newest incarnation is Art(ology) Gallery & Gifts, a co-op founded by Ardith Goodwin and her colleagues, Marsha Sutton, Gail Wilson, Terri Keller, Michelle Foreman Leech and Claire Noojin.

Goodwin, a former elementary school teacher and now full-time artist, came up with the name for the gallery at the epicenter of Mobile’s downtown arts district.

“(The name) is the study of art, which I just loved,” says Goodwin. “Holly Carrigan and I were throwing around names, and some of them pretty lame.”
