Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food donates over 20,000 pounds of food

Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food, a leading super premium pet food company, recently donated 2,010 pounds of their nutritious dog food to Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue and their Pawsitive Change Prison Program. The donation is part of Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food’s Fill A Bowl… Feed A SoulTM (“FABFAS”) program, a national campaign targeting the donation of one million meals to shelter pets annually.

To date, Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food has donated over 20,000 pounds of food to Marley’s Mutts. This latest donation of over one ton of food is earmarked for their Pawsitive Change Prison Program that matches inmates with at-risk dogs. The 14-week curriculum is designed to ready both inmates and dogs for the Canine Good Citizen Certification, a test which is by no means easy and where 99% of the world’s dogs could not complete without rigorous and consistent training.

“We have a 100% graduation rate within Pawsitive Change and a 0% recidivism rate for the men who have been released from prison that graduate from this program,” said Zach Skow, Executive Director and Founder of Marley’s Mutts. “Rehabilitation, hope, consciousness and positivity is born from this program and all who have been a part of it have reaped the benefits,” continued Zach.

“I first met Zach at the 2016 American Humane Hero Dog Awards Ceremony with his dog Hooch,” said Jeanne Blandford, senior director of marketing at Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food. “I was taken by his passion and dedication to this Tehachapi-based rescue where he rehabilitates, trains and re-homes at-risk dogs from Kern County’s high-kill animal shelters. I immediately knew they would be a perfect partner.”

“Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food has made it possible to run this program. We have very little financial support for the Pawsitive Change program so having this premium dog food donated has definitely been critical. We can’t thank them enough, ” said Zach.

“Our relationship with Marley’s Mutts continues to grow as we see the success they have at rehabilitating and socializing these dogs and leading them to find new homes,” said Chris Mitchell, Chief Executive Officer of Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food. “We greatly admire the work they are doing and are proud to know we are helping sustain and expand a program that saves so many lives.”
