Co-op of 8 women creates East Village shopBy Doug SchorppQCTimes.com

A gift shop featuring the work of local artists and crafters will open Saturday in the Pierce School Mall in the Village of East Davenport.

Trixie-Lu, Unique Gifts for You! is a cooperative involving eight local women who will provide their own handmade items to be sold in one location.

The concept was developed by Meaghan Ortscheid, who makes jewelry.

Other vendors and their items include gemstone jewelry from Settin’ Stone Jewelry, holistic and home-schooled books from A to Zen, diaper and towel gift cakes from Not 2 Sweet Gift Cakes, soy candles and soy soaps from Kat’s Kind Comforts, custom-machined embroidery and hand-painted items from Say it Loud, alpaca wool and felted items from Little Creek Alpacas, and homemade dog treats and pet blankets from Max’s Doggy Treats.

“It’s been in the works since about last year,” Ortscheid said of the store. “As a hobby, I have made jewelry for about eight years. It mostly was because I have nickel allergies. Many people are allergic to nickel and surgical steel in jewelry.”
