‘Cozy’ country gift shop reopens in FairdaleBy Michelle JamesRegister-Herald.com

Tucked away on a country road in Fairdale, the small red building located just beside Meta Jo Henderson’s house looks, from the outside, like a typical storage building. Those who step inside the building, however, realize it is much more.

Aptly dubbed The Little Red Barn, the building which Henderson’s late husband constructed as a woodworking workshop opened June 13 as Saxon Road’s newest — and only — country gift shop.

This isn’t the first time Henderson has run a business out of her little red building.

In addition to the workshop, she and her husband operated Wood & Lace, a woodworking business. In fact, this is the second go-around for The Little Red Barn, as Henderson said it was open from 2001 to 2004, when she closed it in order to spend more time with her grandchildren.

Although the business was closed, Henderson’s love for everything arty did not go away and she, with the help of her daughter Shelley Jo Scarbro, decided to reopen.

Henderson’s “cozy” shop features items such candles, potpourri, tarts, tart burners, mats, legacy items, i.e., note cards and stationary.
