It’s been a good year for downtown Greeley.

Despite coming out of recession, despite the stagnant jobless numbers in Greeley, despite years of vacant storefronts and businesses closing, old downtown Greeley is finding new life.

Many new businesses and restaurants have opened in the downtown district over the past several months. And it looks like more are coming.

The area along 9th Avenue south of 9th Street has become a little fashion district, with clothing stores, handbag shops and shoe stores.

The area also has jewelry stores, a gift shop that recently expanded and a well-established bookstore and coffee shop.

Retail owners in this area have reported promising sales and are happy they located in downtown Greeley.

Now, several new businesses ranging from a vodka distillery to a yogurt shop are opening in the area from the University of Northern Colorado campus north to 1st Street.

It appears downtown Greeley is finally attracting the kind of businesses and clientele that could make it a thriving retail and entertainment center. And, as we hope is the case, success often breeds more success.
