Gift Cards a Big Hit for Christmas
Last Thursday and Friday it was time to buy. Now, it’s time to cash in those gift cards and return that pair of socks grandma bought for you.
Things have trickled down a little, as the day after Christmas is traditionally the third busiest shopping day of the year.
Experts say it’s not just the bargains bringing shoppers out; but, the gift exchanging, and the ever so popular gift card redeeming.
Pauly Richardson says she figured it would be easier to wait until after Christmas to shop. Even easier, she says, is buying gift cards.
Richardson said, “That’ll just save me from wrapping up; and giving them something that they don’t want and have to bring back and exchange. So, I didn’t come down with any gifts.”
A National Retail Federation survey says more than 77 percent of Americans bought gift cards this season, spending an average of $145, which is $6 more than last year.
Tallahassee resident Karol Garrison said, “I got my sister-in-law a little cute apron, like what they wear at Home Depot; and I gave her a little small gift card in there for a nominal amount just to tuck in with her other stocking stuffer-type gifts.”
