Humble kraft paper packs a punch for gifts
Looking for gift wrap that will cover your boxes not only for the holidays but also for future presents?
Look no further than humble kraft paper.
Atlanta interior designer Suzanne Kasler used it as one cornerstone of the holiday gift-wrap collection she conceived for Ballard Designs.
On kraft-wrapped boxes, she envisions her shiny satin ribbon in ivory, bronze or light green ($20 for 10 yards at ballarddesigns.com).
“I’ve always loved that combination of natural-looking materials with things that are more refined,” she said.
The flip side of that is her line of muted metallic wrapping papers for Ballard, also in ivory, bronze and light green ($25 for any three rolls), juxtaposed with her burlap ribbon ($18 for two rolls). She created coordinated gift tags with grommets and string ($10-$12 for 36), inspired by ones she found at a Paris shop.
“One of the things I wanted to show was keeping it a little more simple,” Kasler said. “I think today people want to have simple concepts in how they decorate because Christmas can be overwhelming. I like the wrapping being more of the background.”
