Hurricane damage forces cancellation of gift show

ATLANTA — Due to the damage and condition of Galveston Island and the surrounding area caused by Hurricane Ike, Urban Expositions has announced the cancellation of the October 12-14, 2008 edition of the Galveston Gift & Resort Merchandise Show. The next edition will be held October 11-13, 2009 at the Galveston Island Convention Center at the San Luis Resort, Galveston Island, TX.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by the storm,” says Doug Miller, president, Urban Expositions. “We are currently contacting our retailers and exhibitors in the area to check on the condition of their staff members, families and businesses. We’re very hopeful that they have all been spared from the worst of the storm and want to do whatever we can to help them rebuild their businesses.”

To that point, Urban Expositions is letting area retailers know that if they are still in need of purchasing options, the trade show management company can provide assistance in the form of special incentives to attend any of its upcoming shows. Among them, the Emerald Coast Gift & Resort Show in Ft. Walton Beach, FL (October 19-21), Ocean City Resort Gift Expo in Ocean City, MD (November 16-19) and Grand Strand Gift & Resort Merchandise Show in Myrtle Beach, SC (December 7-10, 2008).

To learn more, retailers can contact Amanda Berry, buyer relations representative for the Galveston Gift & Resort Merchandise Show, at 678.370.0329 or via email at aputman@urban-expo.com

Companies that were planning to exhibit in the 2008 edition can contact show manager Christina Bell to answer any additional questions they may have. She can be reached at 678.370.0335 or cbell@urban-expo.com
