James Douglas Glover Named Icon Honors Life Achievement Award Recipient
Atlanta, GA — James Douglas Glover has been named the first ICON HONORS Life Achievement award recipient by unanimous vote of the ICON executive committee and with the full endorsement of ICON partners Gift & Home Trade Association (GHTA), HFN and AmericasMart Atlanta.
The 2010 Life Achievement Award will be conferred officially at the inaugural ICON HONORS event scheduled for Saturday, July 17 at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis in conjunction with the July Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market and Atlanta International Area Rug Market. Glover will be honored posthumously at that time.
As defined in the ICON HONORS Charter, the Life Achievement Award “recognizes a single individual demonstrating distinguished advancement in an active career.”
“More than any other individual, Jim Glover has shaped the complexion and destiny of the gift industry through a career rich in achievements and contributions touching the lives and livelihoods of retailers and product manufacturers everywhere,” notes George Kacic, vice president of Ganz, GHTA board chairman emeritus and ICON HONORS founding partner.
Glover was owner of Palmer Marketing, which he founded 25 years ago, and which has grown to become one of the U.S. gift industry’s largest and most important product marketing and distribution organizations. He was active in his company throughout its history until his untimely death at 54 on April 5, 2010.
In comments celebrating his life, Glover has been described as having “an unmatched zest for living, boundless energy and creativity.”
“Those qualities mark a life well lived and a lifetime of creative contributions to the industry we celebrate and serve,” notes Jeffrey L. Portman, Sr., president and chief operating officer of AmericasMart Atlanta.
“To honor Jim Glover in this way is in fact an honor for us and an enduring testimony to all that he accomplished, and all that will be achieved through his legacy,” Portman adds.
