Landmark Smithfield Building Becomes Shop of Vintage Items
Smithfield, PA – It may seem to some that a new business has opened near the intersection of routes 119 and 166 in Smithfield. Connie’s Variety Store, however, could be better described as a gathering of family and friends.
The frame structure on Smithfield’s Main Street is an area landmark, having housed the Nicosia Shoe Repair and clothing store that operated continuously from 1934 to 2014.
Sam Nicosia, a well-known shoemaker, worked in the family business there for about 70 years until his passing in January 2014.
Connie Pitts and her husband, Dale, subsequently restored the old shop and have decked it out with vintage toys, furniture, jewelry, purses, books, records, pottery — just about everything antique buffs find irresistible.
