A fresh wave of New Orleans Saints merchandising mania washed over northeastern Louisiana Monday as joyous fans snapped up everything that proclaimed their team as the Super Bowl champion.

Big box retailers like J.C. Penney in Monroe’s Pecanland Mall pre-stocked championship gear in anticipation of a Saints victory.

“Business has been great,” said JCPenney manager Josh Simmons. “The community has come together and gotten behind this team and the sales reflect their enthusiasm.”

Simmons’ store opened early Monday to accommodate anxious fans.

“We sold out of our first shipment of (150) hats almost immediately,” said Simmons, whose Saints gear was replenished with multiple shipments Monday and will be throughout the week. “Demand has been greater than supply, but we’re catching up.”

Smaller shops like Jamie’s Field of Dreams in Monroe were also cashing in and expecting championship gear shipments throughout the week.
