New Grayslake shop offers home accents
There’s something to crow about in downtown Grayslake, The Weathered Crow gift shop at 101 Center St.
Walking through the entrance hallway shared with Vine Martini & Wine bar, you’re greeted with wafts of mild, inviting fragrance.
Owner Agnes Clark will tell you with a smile that it comes from a couple of glowing, aromatic wax warmers. The store carries various scents including cornbread and honey and cranberry cupboard. The wax is made from soy beans, which she stresses is gentle and kind to the environment. So are the candles, from Hinckley-based 1803 Candles.
Browsing through the store one sees a neat assemblage of knickknacks — pottery, paintings, lamps, figurines, decorated towels, rugs, artificial flowers, dip mixes, photographs and jewelry by local artists, and occasional furniture pieces.
“I sell things to decorate a home, making it a warm environment for people to live in,” said Clark, who for five years was manager at Cottage House, a home decorator across the street.
When that store closed in September, Clark, who always wanted to have her own business, discovered that the space next to the Vine was for rent. She seized the opportunity.
Clark remodeled the place with help from her husband, Scott, who is employed by the village of Mundelein, and opened Weathered Crow in October.
