Gift shop sells unique merchandiseBy Dennis BartlowCommercial-News.com

Covington, Ind. — A new gift shop in Covington, Ind., seeks its niche in the downtown area amidst the antique stores and specialty shops.

Lisa Warner opened Around the Corner at 414 Washington St. last week. Appropriately titled, the shop is around the corner from the courthouse square and across the street from Kuppa Koffee. The slogan is “Gifts to Remember.”

“I am trying to have a place where people can find a gift for a wedding, birthday or a get well gift,” she said. “We have something for all different occasions.”

Warner opened with little fanfare, except for those who were watching the commotion around the site.

“I thought it would be nice to have something like this here,” she said. “It is unique.”

She is planning a grand opening for mid-August.

Warner said first-time visitors are pleasantly surprised with her selection of items.

“I have seen a lot of enthusiastic people,” she said.

She and her husband, Rich, worked about eight months to give the location, which served as the Commercial-News Covington Bureau for many years, a bright and cheery look. In addition to unusual gifts, look for the unusual cupboards and other display cases.

“I have been a housewife and raised four children,” she said. She thought the gift store was a neat thing to do.
