NSS to Host Launch of USPS Butterfly Stamp for Greeting Card Industry

White Plains, NY — The National Stationery Show® (NSS) will host the official announcement and unveiling of the U.S. Postal Service® Butterfly stamp, a 64-cent, 1-ounce postage stamp developed in close collaboration with the Greeting Card Association (GCA) to serve the needs of greeting card manufacturers and their customers utilizing square or irregular shaped envelopes. The announcement will take place at 9:30 am on Monday, May 17, 2010, in the South Concourse of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, during the May 16-19 National Stationery Show.

The new Butterfly stamp will serve as a universal symbol for greeting cards requiring additional postage due to being square or irregular in size. In addition to the stamp being available in U.S. post offices beginning May 17, manufacturers of these envelopes can print a silhouette of the butterfly stamp on applicable envelopes, making it known to customers that the new 64-cent stamp – or equivalent postage – is required for mailing. The Butterfly stamp covers the 1-ounce First-Class Mail® letter postage as well as the “nonmachinable” surcharge.

“This stamp will surely offer great convenience to customers while enhancing sales,” said Patti Stracher, show manager. “What’s more, it both symbolizes the important partnership between the GCA and the USPS and acknowledges that greeting cards and handwritten communications are essential and unwavering, in this increasingly digital world,” Stracher added. “We are proud to host this monumental announcement at the NSS, where the entire industry gathers not only for the latest collections, but news and events such as this.”

Manufacturers can download the Butterfly stamp icon in EPS, JPEG, TIF and PDF formats from the Greeting Card Association website at www.greetingcard.org/guests.php. The 64th annual National Stationery Show, the nation’s leading marketplace for the social stationery industry, will run Sunday, May 16, through Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. The Show features nearly 900 exhibitors and attracts some 11,000 attendees.
