Retail Surge: Consumer Spending Maintaining Momentum
THE VILLAGES — Mike and Peggy Rusaw kept pretty busy of late furnishing their new Village of Lynnhaven home.The couple spent somewhat freely this year on décor, furnishings and construction upgrades like new tile and a lanai expansion to make just right their second home purchase in The Villages.
It seems the couple aren’t the only ones spending, considering retailer observations in The Villages and throughout the state and national bellwethers that gauge consumer spending patterns.
Sales during February in Florida, for instance, showed a 5 percent improvement over the same month a year ago, said Rick McAllister, president and chief executive officer of the Florida Retail Federation.
