Some retailers plan sales for G-20 weekend
In the midst of boarded-up buildings and companies directing employees to work remotely due to the G-20 summit, some Pittsburgh companies are in full-sales-ahead mode as they gear up for the event with planned promotions over the weekend.
Saks Fifth Avenue, Downtown, has specific promotions on top of its company-wide beauty product and fragrance gift bag with purchase that is held twice-yearly and runs Sept. 24 through Oct. 4. That, incidentally, has been ramped up with the offer of a $100 gift card for those spending $450 or more on beauty products Thursday through Sunday.
Karen Peter, general manager of Saks’ Downtown store, was not immediately available to comment, but executive assistant Laura Strausbaugh provided via e-mail details of Pittsburgh promotions to draw shoppers.
“We have scheduled two local fashion presentations on Saturday, Sept. 26, to showcase the contemporary styles,” Strausbaugh said.
These are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday and are tied to Saks’ Weekend Warrior event running Thursday through Sunday that promotes its selection of sportswear and contemporary wear for men and women. There’s a $100 gift card with $450 purchase or $250 gift card with $1,000 purchase. Customers who shop Saks’ women’s contemporary department Thursday through Sunday receive a necklace by designer Nanette Lepore with a $250 purchase.
Tom Michael, president of Larrimor’s, a high-end men’s and women’s clothing store, doesn’t have events scheduled.
