There’s coffee and much more brewing at Medina storeBy Sam BoyerCleveland.com

Ohio — Long before most of us were thinking about exotic flavors in our coffee, tea and hot chocolate, Sharon Lipton was a fan of gourmet coffee. But she couldn’t find it near Medina. So she and her daughter, Kim Hansen, opened Coffee Colony at 113 N Huntington St.

“We actually looked around and researched for nearly two years before we found this home,” Lipton said. “We love the property. It was built by P.C. Alcott, a relative of Louisa May Alcott and they say she used to visit. We don’t know if she wrote any of her stories here, but we like to think so.”

As the name implies, the first floor of the lovely old home is filled with coffee of every description – organic, regular, decaf, flavored, from every fair-trade country in the world. You can buy it in small $1 packs so you can sample them all or buy your favorite by the pound. Lipton and staff will grind it fresh for you right there, as well.

A customer walked in as I was in the store. Jamie Holley said Coffee Colony is one of her favorite stores and she was shopping for a sampling of different flavors to send to a friend in Arizona. “Jamaican Me Crazy is my favorite,” she said.

In addition to the coffee, the store sells a wide variety of tea including green, white, red and flavored in bulk, regular or decaf. Plus you can buy beautiful teapots, cups and all the accessories you might need to go with your beverages. There are also mixes for dips and other goodies on the racks.
