Wake up to a Brighter Day with Clocks, etc. by Paper Scissors Rock
Olympia, WA – With the economic downturn, many shoppers assume artful hand-made gifts are not in their budget. But Mixed media artist and clockmaker Pam Corwin offers an affordable option with her imaginative, whimsical clocks. And her business is soaring this year.
Corwin’s new clocks are a delight to behold, with charming images and surprising mechanisms.
“My alarm clocks have floating second hands which add to their narratives: The cat clock has a tiny mouse which appears to magically run around the cat, and on the dog clock, a small bone circles around the face of the clock, counting the seconds,” says Corwin, who has been a painter and illustrator since childhood.
Paper Scissors Rock offers alarm clocks in 40 different motifs, which are reproductions of Corwin’s original watercolor and acrylic paintings.
In addition to alarm clocks, buyers may select wall clocks (which resemble tiles, but are feather-light), with the same humor and imagination as the studio’s alarm clocks. Multi-colored borders with intricate designs, along with flowers, squiggles and other motifs function as a picture frame for each image.
One of her new designs, ’12 Things to Make Besides Money,’ is especially appropriate for these times when people are thinking about what’s important in life. Corwin says it is selling faster than she can make them. “It’s our best seller by far,” she says. “The message is certainly timely!”
Corwin attributes the popularity of her craftwork to its thoughtful mix of kinetics, color, and fantasy. Some of Corwin’s other best sellers feature clever twists on favorite American phrases, such as: “Home is where the cat is.” Among other designs is a martini glass with the phrase “Every Hour is Happy Hour.”
Retail prices range from $10.95 for a set of magnets up to $30 for a wall clock. Alarm clocks sell for approximately $20 each, retail. To register for a wholesale account log onto: www.psrock.com or call the studio at (800) 969 – 0869.
