Tourism off to a great start as Easter weekend visitors remainBy Jannette PippinJDNews.com

At Jordan’s House of Seafood in Emerald Isle the Easter weekend crowd was still hanging around as a new week began.

“We were extremely busy all weekend. It really started Thursday, and we’re still doing a really good lunch right now,” manager Joyce Phillips said Monday.

Conditions were just right for a strong Easter holiday weekend for many area businesses in Onslow and Carteret counties as warm temperatures, sunny skies and a spring break schedule for area school systems brought out a crowd.

From her business located in Surf City just over the swing bridge, Julie Bell Voorhees could see a steady flow of cars onto Topsail Island throughout the weekend.

“A constant stream of cars started around Wednesday and it looks like people came out to spend a long weekend,” said Voorhees, owner of Bumblebee Market. “That’s good for everybody, not just us.”
