Bloomfield shop offers unique finds
Bloomfield, N.Y. — Patty Conklin was a career paralegal for most of her working life, until one day in 2008.
While eating lunch near home with her husband, she looked out the window of the Twins Diner in Bloomfield.
There sat her brother-in-law David Conklin’s 2008 purchase across the street, one of Bloomfield’s storied commercial storefronts.
Patty looked at the empty store across the street from the couple’s window table.
“I said then, you know, I always wanted to try this,” remembered Patty.
Flash forward a few months, and Patty is standing near her new cash register in her new gift shop, Simply Unique, Bloomfield’s newest Main Street store.
Six weeks before Christmas, Patty Conklin opened her doors at Simply Unique. She got a surprise.
“Twenty-five people came right in to find me,” said Patty. She fielded each visit with interest from the local craftsman and artists who stopped in or called. Many came some distance to see her and place wares in her store. Simply Unique sells crafts, cards, food, textiles, cosmetics, housewares, sundries and some very unusual items. Most of Patty’s inventory is made right here in Western New York. The store is the perfect complement to Bloomfield’s teeming antique emporiums.
