New ‘beautique’ in TurnerBy Denise RuttanStatesmanJournal.com

A self-described “hometown girl” has opened a new business in Turner — and coined a new catch phrase for her eclectic shop.

Danielle Adams of Turner opened Sweet Country Salon at 5255 Boise St. SE, Turner, in late December. She calls it a “beautique” — a beauty salon and boutique/gift shop all in one.

“That’s my claim to fame. One of my clients gave me the idea (for the name),” Adams said. “I’m a Jane of all trades.”

A photographer for 10 years, Adams had long been self-employed before she opened the retail shop. About five years ago when she started working as a hairdresser and leasing her own station, she also started crafting primitive wooden signs as a hobby. Her husband, Jim, a welder, creates refinished antique furniture.

Before that, Adams had moved out-of-state for five years, then returned home with her two daughters after a divorce.

“I realized where my heart was,” Adams said.

Back in Turner, Adams reunited with Jim, whom she had grown up with, and they got married. The family recently bought a house in Turner.

When the business opportunity came up, she thought it was a sign.

“Everything worked itself out. The building went up for lease and I debated going to Salem to work, but I’m a small-town girl at heart,” Adams said. “I got attached to my clients in this town.”
