Share Your Story: Alicia Boateng Designs

A business that wants to empower women one cup at a time.

With so many retailers facing similar challenges right now, we encourage you to Share Your Story so we may share your story and help other independent retailers.

Alicia Boateng, co-owner of Alicia Boateng Designs is a maker dedicated to designing and making creations that “empower women to feel beautiful, confident and worthy, while enjoying their favorite beverage out of a carefully handmade cup.” Boateng explained that its mission is to empower women one cup at a time.

Currently, Boateng utilizes digital ads, emails, press releases and social media to spread the word about her offerings, and at this time she is still undecided if her business will be exhibiting at any upcoming shows.

Alicia Boateng Designs is currently adding a new journal offering to its Afro Glam Collection, as well as other lines. ” We are also developing the The B.E. (Black Excellence) Collection, where every year to celebrate Black History Month, we will highlight a cup inspired by a Black woman,” she explained.  The 2021 cup was available until Mar. 1, 2021 and was inspired by Madam C.J. Walker, according to Boateng.

In addition to being a small business and supporter of empowering women, Boateng also supports a charitable organization. “We have a partnership with Girl Pride Africa, a non-profit organization that helps young teenage mothers by teaching them life skills such as financial independence, daily survival skills, and education,” she explained.

When Boateng submitted to Share Your Story, she also shared some display tips for retailers: “Having good lighting on your products is key. This will accentuate all the details within the product and will allow the customer to fall in love with the product before even knowing it.”
